xx Is Your Website Too Busy? Create a New Page!
March 28, 2009, 09:55:26 AM by MrLeN
I just finished checking out some websites that have submitted their URL to zeriouz, and one of the sites had popups, a notification bar displaying at the top, at least 2 dozen different affiliate links all over the index page (both in banner and link format), as well as a shoutbox and a whole heap of other stuff I didn't get time to see because the site gave me an instant headache and I had to close the browser.

If you have a website, here's a tip: Don't try to fit everything on your index page. It doesn't matter of you're running a website or a blog -- creating a "new" page doesn't cost an extra cent, or any more time.

If you want to advertise a web hosting affiliate program, create a new page and write some information about the web hosting. Don't make it look like an ad though. Let me give you an example.

If you find an affiliate program online that allows you to earn commissions from web hosting, don't put it on your index page with two dozen other banners. Not only is it an eyesore, but no one is ever going to click on it - because creating a website like that will not give you any search engine rankings.

Instead, take a look at what the service offers, and write an article that pulls people in from search engines. If the web hosting offers 100 MB of web space, include a sentence in your content that says:

"If you run a small website, you'll need at least 100GB of web space, because you'll need to take into account that FrontPage extensions take up room on the server, and so does a database. As more people visit and join your website, that database is going to need more room."

Also, include 100 MB in your page title, description and meta tags. Then, on your index page, don't add a banner to the affiliate program. Add a link to that page instead. There's only so many affiliate programs you can advertise on your website homepage.

It is better to create a few new pages every day, which can be done in less than an hour. Then, after a year, you will have over 1000 pages of content, advertising just as many affiliate programs. If you only ever create content for your index page, you will never get to post 1000 banners on the page -- and even if you did, any visitor that does happen to find your site will leave in less than 5 seconds.

xx My First Blog post
March 06, 2009, 07:47:50 AM by MrLeN
I always have something on my mind. I'm always trying to find someone to tell all about my conclusions. As a web developer, I've been building websites for over ten years now - and it's amazing that I didn't create a blog until now.

Oh well, better late than never. But anyway -- now when I come up with some brilliant plan, or uncover a world conspiracy, or just want to give my two cents worth, I can post it all here and simply give all the people that I usually badger a link. Good thing is, I will have all the responses in one spot Smiley
