Hi MrLeN I'd like to request some web space please.... The reason being ..... I've constructed an e-commerce web site selling t-shirts & various paraphernalia using a company called spreadshirt. They are base in Germany. Their payment checking system does a check to see if the browser ordering the products matches the delivery address (A very silly check I know ... which I've tried arguing with them is pointless, but to no avail) The long and short of it is that most of my customers are based in Guernsey in the Channel Islands & whilst their IPs resolve correctly as being from Britain their payment system rejects any orders saying that the order is not being placed from Guernsey. I'm pretty far down the line with the site & product designs & need to really make it work. What I'm proposing is to route all requests to their server via a php script on a UK based server in the hope that it will correctly validate the Guernsey orders. FYI : the site is located at http://shop.jazzonymous.orgHence my request for some web-space on you UK based servers Thanks Tosty

ok mate, fair enough. I'll hook you up, but no funny business ok? I'll be watching.
Look out for a PM.
Also, please keep in mind that I am just starting out with this hosting and not one person is currently set up. You're the first.
Of course, being the first setup, if something goes wrong, I'll be here to fix it.
However, I do have quite a bit of experience with hosting and servers, so if something "does" go wrong, it will be something that can be fixed -- most likely an oversight, due to the fact that the whole setup is new.
You cool with that?

Hi
Thanks for that.
Don't worry "no funny business" ... the php script I want to deploy passes on the URL request to my site. because it's running on a UK server the 'requestor' will be using the IP of the server its running on. So hopefully that way when they do a check it won't bomb
I'm not even sure if this will work or not. I only know that when I (or a couple of other "test customers"... ie my family!) order from my site from home (in Guernsey) it flops but if I order from work using a proxy on our UK network it works!
Thanks
Tosty

Hi
I'm all signed up but I never received an email with the FTP details ? Should I be able to access the space with the cPanel or such like?

I tested the account just before I sent you the authorization code. In my test, I received the activation email, which contains all the information.
It contains FTP details, login details, your username and password.. everything you need.
Can you please check your spam folder? Also please verify that you didn't make a typo with your email address.

Hi
Thanks... Found it in my Spam folder.
However userid & password seem to fail when I try to log in to the cPanel I'll try again tonight at home as I'm behind a proxy server at the moment.

Hi
Logging on worked a treat. Had a good ol' rummage & browse on all the features .... they look FANTASTIC! What you're offering here is excellent ... many thanks indeed.
Unfortunately my experiment with the php script didn't work & my orders thru' it got rejected again. hey ho ... I'll just have to try something else.
Talking of which I have a cgi script to try and do the same thing but I can't get it to run. I've added it to the sgi-bin & changed the permissions to 777 but it doesn't seem to want to run

Great, glad you like it. CGI is enabled mate, and (although I would never recommend 777), even if you "did" set it at 777, then there is a CGI configuration problem. These UK servers are highly maintained and very professional. Please try again with your script. ..also, since you like the service so much.. if you want an actual website, lemme know ok? ..also, a testimonial will be very nice

Excellent .... cgi's are working fine now.
My next attempt at trying to resolve my e-ordering issues means I need to enable SSL. I need to enable my cgi script to be able to use SSL when forwarding on the request ie from my script to my e-commerce site, (eventually I'll need to secure the connection between browser & the cgi script on your server ... but hey one thing at a time I guess)
How do I set up SSL ? I've generated a certificate
plus I think I need to get OpenSSL & Net::SSLeay installed ?
Sorry 'bout all the questions I appreciate it's not you're not job to solve all this but I'm new to all this Linux stuff
Ta

Yeah, that's pretty much where my help has to stop mate.
I am offering this service mainly because "I can", and I like to help people. Building a community of people, where I am able to be of assistance is a great thing to me -- even if I don't get anything back.
..but there's a limit to how I can assist. I can tell you though, that for SSL, you'll need to find a good SSL provider. Finding one is up to you, and if you do find one, there is an SSL manager in cPanel, which you have access to -- and it's all working fine.
Basically, the deal here is -- I offer free hosting, and I make sure it all works properly. If something isn't working properly, I will fix it so that it does. But, to the best of my knowledge, everything is working correctly, and what ever else you need -- you'll have to work out yourself.
If you log into cPanel, you'll see the SSL options there. You have the utmost control over how you have everything set up.
